Transport Authority Inducts New Enforcement Officers After Training
The newly recruited officers, would be well versed with all the necessary knowledge, so that their job can be done with utmost diligence.
The Land Transport Authority has inducted 25 new recruits and 23 E-ticketing officers at the Meteorological Office in Vatuwaqa yesterday.
LTA Legal Policy and Business Development general manager Navilesh Chand said the induction training was for officers from the new Enforcement Department which included three divisions such as Road Safety Officers, E-Ticketing Officers and Weighbridge Officers.
He said that the induction training would be beneficial for the new recruit officers, who would be well versed with all the necessary knowledge, so that their job can be done with utmost diligence. “There would be lot of challenges that the officers would be faced with as no individual person’s make up is the same as that of another person,” Mr Chand said.
Recruit, Christer Tianoa, 35, said he felt great and was honoured to be the part of LTA.
“My aim as an Enforcement Officer is to ensure road users follow the traffic laws which we are here to enforce,” Mr Tianoa said.
Laisiana Lavo, 33, is in the Enforcement Department as a Road Safety Officer and she will do her utmost to ensure that the road fatalities are minimised.
“It was a male dominated field because hardly any females were Road Safety Officers it will be challenging for me,” she said.
“Being with men I will be able to learn more and enhance my knowledge,” Ms Lavo said. Speaking to the new enforcement officers the LTA board chairman Vijay Maharaj reminded them about attending legal proceedings.
“Attend legal proceedings and provide evidence in court as a witness as and when required to testify in court regarding the circumstances surrounding and reasons for issuing TIN citations,” Mr Maharaj said.
He said the authority had high expectations that these officers would do their work well.
“That is to enforce traffic safety laws to deter illegal activities on the road and ensure that the use of motor vehicles are regulated for the purposes of safety, protection of the environment and law enforcement,” he said.
