UPDATES ON CLUBS’ PREPARATIONS
The village of Yadua in Cuvu, Nadroga is the heart and soul of the Sigatoka Electric Ravuka Sharks who are making their debut in the 2018 Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament. Sharks coach Asi Mocelutu said yesterday that they have been the pride of the villagers especially from their recent performance in other tournaments.
“The vanua is really proud of the players and they have been getting encouragement words from the chief,” he said.
Mocelutu said playing in the Marist Sevens tournament is a big thing for the team.
“This is our first time and we want to do well to do our vanua proud.” The village of Yadua is the home of former national sevens forward Mosese Volavola, Auckland Blues lock Vula Maimuri, former Flying Fijians flanker Aca Ratuva, Etonia Naba and the Lotawa brothers. Mocelutu said they have put in place strategies which they hope would work for them during the tournament which is on March 2324 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva. “We are looking forward to a good outing and hoping to do well in the Marist Sevens.”
He said playing rugby is a way of keeping these young men occupied and not be influenced by criminal activities.
“We use rugby as a tool to take the boys away from crime. There is a committee formed by the villagers in order to cater for the welfare of the players so they can stay focused.”
