FIA Summit To Focus On Factors Impacting Economic Growth
Ahost of experts will speak on major business issues in May at the 46th installment of the Fiji Institute of Accountants’ (FIA) annual congress. With the theme ‘Growth through Synergy, Collaboration, Innovation and Resilence,’ the summit is expected to attract some 350-400 participants at the Shangri’la Fijian Resort.
President of Fiji, Major-General (Retired) Jioji Konrote will be the chief guest at the summit.
FIA council member Rajeshwar Singh said accountants had a responsibilty to help people understand the issues impacting the business sector.
“We won’t be talking about technical things like financial statments,” Mr Singh said.
“We want to talk about what impacts businesses and the engine of growth in the private sector and how we can bring together all sectors that make up the economy.” Vodafone Fiji and Westpac Banking Corporation have come on board as the major sponsors of the conference .
Participants at the conference will have chance to pose questions to the experts, some of whom are internationally acclaimed. Mr Singh confirmed the speakers were selected based on expertise and knowledge in their respective fields.
The topics covered at the conference include, cyber crime, change management, people management, innovation, resilience, leadership, conflict resolution, technology, communications and media. FIA President, Finau Nagera, said economic growth in Fiji can only be achieved through colloboration, innovation and a motivated workforce.
Ms Nagera also said the accountants’ institute held the human element as paramount in business. According to a FIA press release, names of the speakers will be released on a weekly basis as part of the event’s build-up.
The institute was formed in 1972, and in 2016 had 785 enlisted members from around the region.
It is run by a council of nine elected members.
