The Majestic Boxing Promotions programme scheduled for the FMF National Gymnasium today has been cancelled. This was after the Boxing Commission Fiji ruled during the weigh-in at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva yesterday that New Zealand – based Iraqi boxer Sivan Hermez is not eligible to fight Joseph Kwadjo in the main bout. Commission chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai made the ruling after the New Zealand Boxing ordered that Hermaz be stopped from fighting due to medical reason. Mataitawakilai said although they are an independent body, they will have to respect the decision made by their NZ counterpart.

Mataitawakilai said they received an e-mail stating that Hermez be given 60 days to recover after he suffered two knockouts in his last two fights.

“I have to make it clear that BCF will not allow Hermez to step into the scale today and fight tomorrow because he has not produced the clearance from the New Zealand Boxing Commission which he is registered under,” he said. New Zealand Boxing Commission supervisor John Hogg informed the BCF by email yesterday. “They are unable to give the clearance for Sivan Hermez to fight and that is final,”

Majesty Boxing Promotion promoter Sudesh Kumar said he was aware that the fight would go on as normal and there were no signs that it would be cancelled.

“We have been getting signs all along that it was going to happen that is why Sivan Hermaz is here and a lot of money spent to bring him over,” he said. “He has had a medical and all this time I have been getting the green light that the fight was still on.” Hermez was a disappointed man at the weigh-in .

“I’m very disappointed because I come a long way and I have really worked hard for this fight. I also feel bad that I let the people down,” Hermez said.

“In my last fight I was stopped from fighting in the fourth round, I did not know the reason.”
