More Women Play Rugby
More women in the country are now playing rugby.
This was highlighted by Prime Minister and Fiji Rugby Union president Voreqe Bainimarama during the Fiji Rugby Union Awards Night at the Sheraton Fiji Resort at Denarau, Nadi on Friday.
He said women rugby in the country had experienced an increase of 6000 nationwide through the Get in to Rugby Programme. “I am very proud to say that the number of women rugby clubs has grown to 28 all around the country in 2018,” Bainimarama said.
He said the year 2017 recorded a total of 19,000 participants in the programme, compared to 13,000 when it first started in 2016.
“So the future is looking bright for the next generation of young Fijian women.”
SEVENS BONUS
Fiji Airways managing director and chief executive officer Andre Viljoen announced that our Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team would receive a bonus of $60,000. The players will be sharing $25,000 for winning the Hamilton 7s, $25,000 for winning the Canada 7s and $10,000 for reaching the semifinals of the USA 7s in Las Vegas.
He said their performance in Vancouver helped Fiji Airways in sending a positive sentiment for Fiji as a destination and Fiji Airways as the airline to get there.
“This week’s win in Canada by our beloved 7s team helps us reaffirm those messages to the market place it also injected a positive sentiment to Fijians living in the area,” Viljoen added.
