Anew Land Transport Authority (LTA) office was opened at JKS Building in the heart of Savusavu Town in Vanua Levu yesterday.

LTA board chairperson Vijay Maharaj, who was chief guest during the opening ceremony, said the office located at level one will add on to provide more efficient, customer-friendly and easily accessible services to LTA’s valued customers. “This new office comes at a time when public continue to invest in the transport sector here for which they require fast, efficient and easy access to LTA services,” Mr Maharaj said.

“In addition to that, our customers in Savusavu will also have easy access to facilities for people that are physically challenged.

This is a proactive initiative of the Fijian Government to uplift and standardise LTA’s customer service facilities and similarly delivery across Fiji.”

“This new office will be headed by a branch manager with customer service officers, road safety officers, vehicle examiners and driving examiners,” he added. “The office will be operational from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. Some of the services at the LTA office will include:

-Payment of vehicle inspection fees -Vehicle registration fees (wheel tax for post inspected vehicle)

-Driver licence renewal -Payment of TINs or fine

-Vehicle search records

-Driving test and vehicle inspection -Fee payment, booking and result queries for defensive driving course

Public Reaction

Isaia Nainoca, 64, one of the landowners of Wailevu District in the province of Cakaudrove said he was thankful to LTA for bringing better services to the town.

“The office is spacious, can easily cater to a lot of people, is clean and neat and the officers at the desk are very friendly,” Mr Nainoca said.

“It is good to see that it is located in the middle of the town making accessiblity easy.”

James Marimuttu, 69, has been operating a service station in Savusavu Town since 1991.

Mr Marimutu said the opening of the office was very timely.

“The old office near the jetty was located at the far end of the town and was not conducive; some services were also not available,” Mr Marimuttu said.

“I had to wait for a few days to do what I needed but now all this will be a thing of the past.

“I am very thankful to LTA for improving their service.”

Future Plans

Mr Maharaj said LTA currently has a total of 20 offices in Fiji,

In order to make its services more accessible and visible to the members of the public, plans are in place for the LTA to establish more offices, he said.

“LTA will be refurnishing its offices in Nadi and it will begin its full-fledged operations soon,” Mr Maharaj added. “Apart from this, Lautoka city will also have a LTA Express office.

“It gives me a great pleasure to see that the LTA is steering towards a new era of business development, standardisation of procedures and policies and, above all, increasing professionalism which is enhancing the quality of LTA’s service delivery.”
