The introduction of a cashless system through the new E-transport card by the FijiFirst Government, is a milestone and change for Fiji. This was highlighted by the Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Vijay Nath, during the presentation of certificates to the newly-inducted Land Transport Authority enforcement officers at Valelevu, Nasinu on Friday.

The 23 officers, who graduated. have been tasked to monitor the enforcement of the E-ticketing system while 13 other graduates will be weighbridge officers and 12 will be road safety officers. Mr Nath said on average, $10 million worth of E-ticketing top-up cards are being done every month, in an average total fare transaction of $9.5 million per month. Mr Nath told the graduates that the infrastructure was vital to economic growth and their job as enforcement officers was crucial. “When we talk about our infrastructure, we are referring to 7525 kilometre of sealed/unsealed roads and 1251 bridges,” he said.

“Therefore it is your core responsibility to ensure that there are no overladen vehicles on our roads to damage these infrastructures.

“Your role is to enforce the law to deter illegal activities on the road and ensure that the use of motor vehicles are regulated for the purposes of safety, protection of the environment and law enforcement.

Mr Nath said customer services were important to all organisations including LTA.

“It is important that you all know that LTA is envisioned to strive for excellence in the delivery of customer services with transparency and accountability,” Mr Nath said. LTA board chairman, Vijay Maharaj, said LTA was pleased to welcome the new recruits to the organisation and he hoped the graduates will carry out their duties with integrity and humility in accordance with the LTA’s goals and objectives.
