GRADUATION UniFiji gives reason for date change
There was a significant need for the date change because there were some initiatives that were in the pipeline which needed approval from the council before the graduation is held
The University of Fiji has responded to queries raised by students during the Budget Consultation at the Suva Campus on Wednesday March 21, 2018 with regard to the change in dates for the graduation. The change in dates was reached after thorough discussions with various staff and stakeholders at the university.
The Budget Consultation was not the main reason for the change of dates.
There was a need for the date change because there were some initiatives in the pipeline which needed approval from the council before the graduation is held.
These initiatives are for the betterment of students.
The Registrar, Kamlesh Arya, stated that when the change of dates was made, each student was notified.
“Each graduating student was notified via email or phone call of the change of dates,” he said. “Between the advertisement of the previous graduation date and notification of the change, students were given a month’s lead time,” he said.
He further commented that soon after the query was raised, the university responded to the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts that the change in dates was not primarily because of the Budget Consultation, but because of other circumstances.
As stated by the Attorney-General and Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the university received only two or three complaints in regard to the concerns raised by students.
At the University of Fiji, students remain the most important stakeholders and we are continuously trying to improve on delivering quality and affordable education to all our students for a knowledgebased society in Fiji.
The university conveys its apologies to students for any inconvenience caused because of the change in dates.
However, the graduation will be held on April 13, 2018.
