It is everyone's duty to make an effort, raise awareness and support change as small as turning a light off to make this world a better place.

Those were the encouraging words of Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Manager Julien Racine during the annual Earth Hour celebration on Denarau Island on Saturday.

He said: “There is no too small effort; together we will make a difference. Responsible business is key for the Radisson Group who has been taking part and promoting Earth hours for years through all our 1,400 hotels worldwide.”

This is not the first time the resort has hosted such an event as there is a huge significance for the resort.

“It is an event that brings us together, the team and our guests, a special moment in its own. But it is also the time to remember that lights left on are using energy and by being more mindful, we can help reduce energy consumption and make a difference,” added Mr Racine.

Resort staff members teamed up with their resorts guests and the event began with candle lighting by the warriors before it was escorted around the resort by students of Vunayasi District School and Nadi Primary School.

The resort observed “lights out” for an hour where they created a 60+ (sign), followed by fire shows, a kava ceremony and games. “All lights apart from the emergency exit lights will be switched off and we will ensure we have few surprises organised to create a memorable moment throughout a special entertainment,” he said. Vunayasi District School headteacher Ilaisa Lagivouturaga said: “this is an annual event and grateful for the students to spearhead this awareness in the conservation of energy.”
