Namata Kindy gets boost from Fiji Marriott and ‘InnerWheel’
Anewly-built kindergarten in Nadroga has been chosen to be the recipient of gifts donated jointly by Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay and international charity organisation “Inner Wheel” from German.
The kindergarten at Namata Primary School was on Wednesday boosted by a donation of furniture, toys and learning tools.
Head teacher Anita Chand said: “We are very thankful to the Fiji Marriott through their partnership with Inner Wheels for providing new furniture to our new kindergarten.
“It was very difficult to start up this project of Early Childhood Education. I wanted to start in the last three years. This sponsorship has boost the set up.”
The school was established 1960, and the kindergarten was set up this year with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
Inner Wheel club members, a couple from Germany, Katja, and Peter Himmel, joined their Fiji-based member Katrin Dressino, the wife of Fiji Marriott’s general manager Silvano Dressino for the presentation.
According to Mrs Dressino she fell in love with the idea from Mrs Chand, who was following through her new project.
“I like this project because this school has students who are iTaukei and Indians of Fijian descendant which is great mix,” Mrs Dressino said.
“It is nice that they have their own kindergarten. I thank the Inner Wheel club that supports me with the projects undertaken where I live. They send a portion of money and am lucky to have my husband, who allows his workers to be part of the project, too.”
She added the furnishing was completed by the resort as their participation of Community Social Responsibility (CSR).
Mrs Himmel said: “I met Katrin last year and we are here to see what she has been doing in Fiji. The children will be lucky to be part of this handover.”
Meanwhile, Inner Wheel is an international organisation closely linked to Rotary that was founded in 1924 to unite wives and daughters of Rotarians.
The International Inner Wheel objectives are: promoting true friendship; encouraging the ideals of personal service; and fostering international understanding.
Inner Wheel Club Steigerwald in Germany has been supporting charity projects in various countries.
With the support from its leisure guests and corporate clients Fiji Marriott Resort makes local communities better places to live, work and visit.
Meanwhile, Fiji Marriott Resort is constantly participating in various CSR activities, including donation of stationery and school supplies to Tau Primary School, Namata and Nawai schools, investing in the vitality of local children and promoting sustainable education, renovation and refurbishment of local Kindergartens and village Health Centre.
