Ateam of health inspectors have been deployed in Nadi since Monday to carry out disinfectant exercises in all evacuation centres.

Nadi health inspector Nicky Prasad said they started with the exercise after the flood in Nadi.

“We have started with the disinfectant exercises in all evacuation centres with the use of pynol. We spray them in all toilet and bathroom facilities, and in areas where people use for sleeping. This is to kill all the bacteria,” he said.

“This is to prevent people from getting sick as we all know that there is a high chance of people getting sick after a flood.”

He also confirmed that there were two teams of health inspectors on the ground and each team was made up of three health inspectors.

Out of the 17 evacuation centres activated in Nadi on Sunday only 12 were still active as of yesterday.

A team of nurses from the Ministry of Health have also been deployed at evacuation centres within Nadi to conduct medical checks on flood victims.
