I’m confident: Vaivai
Tavuki, Taveuni native Apolonia Vaivai is confident of a golden outcome as in the women’s weightlifting 69kg category.
Vaivai has been Fiji’s best performing athlete in the last four years being the lone medalist in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. In recognition of her previous performance Vaivai will be Fiji’s flag-bearer for tonight’s 2018 Games Opener.
“I don’t really feel the pressure. But I’m confident of winning gold on competition day,” Vaivai said.
“With the Lord nothing is impossible, no matter the circumstances I will get that gold.
“God has brought me this so far, and i will aim to stand on the podium after doing my country proud.” Polly, as she commonly known, feels excited about being the flag-bearer
“I’m excited to represent all Fijians carrying the flag on the opening ceremony.
“I thank my family and Weightlifting Fiji for their support through prayers.”
President Teams Up
President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote will attend the opening ceremony of the 21st Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast in Australia tonight. President Konrote met up with Team Fiji officials and players and will watch some members of the team during their participation in their various sporting events.
During his visit to Australia, President Konrote will pay a courtesy call to the Governor – General General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
President Konrote is also expected to visit the Fiji Mission in Canberra He returns on Sunday.
