Reports of rape cases and sexualrelated offences being registered at our various Police stations are being reported all over the news media daily – by newspapers, radio and television. Even boys are now being raped which is an absolute act of disgust. In the past, girls were not safe and now males are also being raped.

This, in my opinion, could be because of parental negligence, over-trusting family members who are mostly perpetrators of these heinous crimes. The Fiji I once knew is no more. It hurts. The truth hurts that I can now say that Fiji is unsafe for both men and women, boys and girls.

The report of the rape of a baby, a two-year-old or a grandmother is utterly disgusting and sad.

To all those males and females who will read my letter, please stop this inhumane act. Rape is a crime and the repercussion for your actions is scarred for life on the victim.

In 10 years' time our prisons will be staggered with rapists. As a Fijian are you lost? Have you no value for small kids? No respect for your God?

Is this what your religion taught you? Think about these points the next time someone is trying to indulge in rape. By doing this act the person goes to jail but think about that girl or boy, think about your family and kids also. I am not proud to be to a Fijian today. I am not proud if Fiji wins Hong Kong 7s this week and I am definitely not saddened by the floods in Western Division.

What saddens me the most is this on-going account of rape. Put an end to this please and all the best to Fijian sevens team.
