Afamily of Yako in Malomalo, Nadroga, is mourning the loss of the head of the family who died in a road accident along Nalovo outside Nadi, yesterday afternoon.

Dead is Tomasi Naivanawalu, 38, an employee of DoubleTree Sonaisali Island Resort in Nadi.

His wife, Anaisi Tawalo, 30, a school teacher, was being comforted by family members at their home.

She recounted their last conversation before the incident happened about 2pm yesterday.

“He said he was going to buy our dinner for tonight (last night),” she said.

“I was alerted by the neighbours about the accident and rushed to hospital, only to learn that he was no more.”

“I returned and told the elder children and until now we are still trying to come to terms with it.”

The couple have been married for 10 years. “He was a nice man and always loved to care for his children. He loved my profession and we will miss him a lot,” Ms Tawalo said. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said, “The victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 32-year-old man, who is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol”. Ms Naisoro confirmed another passenger was admitted at Lautoka Hospital and was in a serious condition.

Investigations are continuing and the driver is being questioned at the Nadi Police Station. Mr Naivanawalu is survived by his wife and three children
