We are aware of the challenge by the countries who are preparing their number one teams for the Commonwealth Games- Semi Kunatani.
Team Fiji sevens are settling well at the Commonwealth Games village after arriving yesterday in the Gold Coast, Australia, from Hong Kong. Fiji play Sri Lanka in their opening game on Saturday at 1:21pm (Fiji time), Uganda at 7:53pm and Wales at 11:33pm. The semifinals and final will be held on Sunday.
Semi ‘Beast” Kunatani believes sticking to their game plan will be key in getting Fiji first rugby 7s gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
The Gareth Baber-coached side arrived at Gold Coast from Hong Kong yesterday. After checking at the Games Village, they headed straight for their recovery session. Speaking to SUNsports at the Games Village yesterday Kunatani said; “Expect the unexpected.”
Top teams like South Africa and New Zealand send their second string teams two Hong Kong last weekend while preparing their top teams for the Commonwealth Games this week.
To this the ‘Beast’ said they have nothing to lose going into the competition this week.
“What’s important for us now is our recovery session. We just need to do our recovery well and build up again for this week,” Kunatani said.
“It will be a tough challenge. Many of the teams like South Africa, New Zealand and Australia are focusing on this week as they send they second team to Hong Kong. But we are aware of the challenge that awaits us this week,” he said. The Naqalimare, Navosa native believes they would just need to stick to their game plan.
“We just have to stick to our game plan and play the game we love to play.
“Show them the Fijian flair again and play for the people of Fiji,” Kunatani said.
