Good Samaritans
Sylvia Narayan, Nadi
Much praise and appreciation to the Government of the day for reaching out to the needy during this difficult time and lending much-needed assistance to flood-affected victims around the country.
While we cannot change the fact for those who have lost their loved ones during this disaster, but the moral support from these leaders is incredible.
This is with reference to MaiLife Magazine social media post on April 3, where Attorney-General Aiyaz SaiyadKhaiyum attended the funeral of Mrs Saroj Chand, an unfortunate victim of the recent flooding in Ba.
I commend the soldiers of the Fiji Military Forces who have tirelessly worked round the clock cleaning flood-affected schools and homes in the Western and Northern divisions. Volunteers from several non-government organisations were also out in numbers distributing relief supplies to victims.
The Government announced a new financial assistance scheme in the form of grant for canefarmers who were affected by Cyclone Josie.
Not only nationally, but the country has received assistance internationally from countries like China who have once again extended a helping hand by donating farming equipment.
This is with reference to the Fiji Sun on 7/04/18. The handover ceremony of the disaster relief equipment took place on April 6 and Chinese Ambassador Qian Bo officiated.
The aftermath of such natural disasters may take time to overcome, but such good acts of humanity and togetherness will be sung forever as “deeds of good Samaritans”.
