Wi-fi plan for schools
Schools around the country will be hooked up to a Wi-Fi network in an effort to help students in their school work. This was confirmed by the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum during the Yaadein Vision 18th Annual Conference at the Fiji Marriot Resort, Momi Bay in Nadroga on Saturday.
He said: “One of the things we are looking at and we are talking with some people about is to have school areas wi-fied everywhere.
“When we have school areas wi-fied at least for the time being high school students who will have their laptops and other devices can type out their assignments, do research and submit them.
“But the thing is that they might spend the entire time on Facebook or searching pornographic sites. Those things we have to be mindful of and decide how we will manage that.”
Economic and education empowerment
At the end of the day Fijians want to be economically and educationally empowered.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum stressed there was a need for more focus of economic empowerment and education.
He said: “Yesterday (Friday) we had a meeting with a gentleman, one of the richest men in UK was in Fiji, looking at opportunities in the energy sector and is currently in Australia, bought energy companies and a steel plant”.
“He came to Fiji to check out other opportunities so once you get that it builds a lot of confidence. Ultimately at the end of the day every Fijian wants to be economically empowered.
“We want to focus on economic and education empowerment. These are fundamental issues which people require to live successful and fulfilling lives. That is what it’s all about,” he said.
