SANGAM COLLEGE Couple Graduates in Nursing
The couple met in 2007 while they were in Sangam College of Nursing, when completing their tertiary education in Fiji School of Nursing, in Suva. The duo were recipients of the then Public Service Commission (PSC) Local Scholarship.
Keshwini Deepika Chand and her husband, Yogendra Narayan, graduated together yesterday with Bachelor’s Degrees in Nursing. Keshwini Deepika Chand from 8 Miles Narere, Nasinu, said she was proud that she was able to graduate, an achievement she wanted to thank her husband and family for.
The 29-year-old completed her bachelor of nursing Science in bridging programme.
“We both got transferred to Matuku Island in Lau and when we came here (Suva) we wanted to further our education together,” Ms Chand said.
The couple met in 2007 while they were in Sangam College of Nursing, when completing their tertiary education in Fiji School of Nursing, in Suva. The duo were recipients of the then Public Service Commission (PSC) Local Scholarship. “Being a mother of a 5-year-old daughter was not easy to study and work at the same time. There were times I went through lot of difficulties, but with my parents and in-laws support I managed to tackle all the challenges that I faced,” she said.
This was not Ms Chand’s first graduation. She had graduated with a Diploma in Nursing in 2011. Mr Narayan graduated with a bachelor of nursing in bridging programme.
He is originally from Seaqaqa, Labasa, and also this was his second graduation. He had completed his diploma in nursing in 2011. “My wife has always been my inspiration,” he said. Both have not ruled out the chance of furthering their education by pursuing post-graduate courses.
It is their dream to buy a property in Suva, which they now call home. Edited by Epineri Vula
