New Zealand All Blacks and Hurricanes No.10 Beauden Barrett is in the country to refresh before his next Super Rugby match on April 27.
The 26- year old trained at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday. “We have a bye week which is why I am here refreshing in Nadi,” he said.
“It is a good field, it’s quite dry after the cyclone and there was a lot of water and I’m sure it will recover. I’m just going to have a few kicks and run around.”
The Canes are leading the New Zealand Conference with six wins from seven outings.
“So far it has been good apart from the first game that we lost in South Africa against the Bulls. It’s been good so far as we had five wins ina-row but we in a good spot on the table.
Some of the memories he shared was playing in Taranaki with some of his good Fijian folks.
“Best memories are playing for the Taranaki 7s team with Waisake Naholo and Samu Vunisa and couple of awesome Fijian boys,” he added.
“Fijian boys have a lot of talent and they always good off the fields because they’re a bit relaxed and quite chilled and pretty easy to get along with.”
He came into the country on Sunday and expected to return at the end of the week.
The Canes play the Sunwolves in the Super Rugby competition on April 27 at the Wellington Regional Stadium.
Barrett was a key member of the 2015 Rugby World Cup winning team.
In 2016 and 2017, he won the World Rugby Player of the Year award, and is only the second player to win the award in back-to-back years. He is considered by many to be the best currently-active rugby player in the world.
Barrett has played at under-20 and Sevens levels for New Zealand before being called into the All Blacks’ training squad in May 2012 and made his international debut in the final test against Ireland in Hamilton, when he kicked nine points, in June 23, 2012.
He debuted for Taranaki in 2010, and debuted in Super Rugby with the Hurricanes in 2011.
