Club supports Government efforts

The Lions Club of Nadi continues to support Government’s efforts in ensuring Fijian are back on their feet after the recent flooding and effects of Tropical Cyclones Josie and Keni. Members of the cluib were present at the Nawaka tramline in Nadi distributing hot meals, and various rations to those in the neighbourhood who were not spared by the cyclone.

Nadi Lions Club project director Charles Devan said: “After the recent flooding in Nadi, the club in conjunction with the Sita Ram temple (Namaka) and Extra Supermarket (Lautoka) assisted those in need.

“We managed to get some rations which include groceries, food, stoves, pillows and household items to be distributed to those who needed it. This area is among the many communities that were not spared during the weather impasse.

“We are complementing the assistance undertaken by the Government of the day in not leaving any Fijian behind.”

The club has 13 active members and 20 volunteers from the temple that formed the dispatch team. Lions Club of Fiji president Nitya Prakash said he was proud of the team effort.

He said the grant of $8500 was sourced from their counterparts in Lions International New Zealand through the Lord Morgan Trust Fund.

“That fund is mainly for the flood victims in Fiji where we bought rations and delivered to those affected.”

Meanwhile, their on-going core project is the eye sight clinic at all the hospitals in the Western Division.
