Top training for boxing officials
The World Boxing Foundation (WBF) in partnership with the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) will conduct a two-day accredited referee, judges and ring supervisor training for local professional boxing officials in Nadi on May 3-4.
The participants will then have the opportunity to show what they have learnt during the Best Boxing Promotions at Prince Charles Park, Nadi on May 5.
BCF chairman Bulutani Mataitawakilai said the training has been made possible through a Government grant from the Ministry of Youth and Sports during the 2017/2018 financial year.
“This will be the first ever training for Fijian boxing officials to be conducted in the country by a recognised international boxing body. “Several training has been conducted in the past by Australian and New Zealand boxing bodies. We are grateful to WBF for this opportunity.” The WBF partnership was first established by BCF acting chairman, the late Malakai Veisamasama.
“As of today, we have four referee and judges in Fiji and we are targeting 15 more interested individuals for this training. So far we have received almost 10 confirmations from interested individuals.
“We are grateful for the ground work and now this training will be of great benefit to professional boxing in Fiji. BCF is again calling for interested women who can join professional boxing as referee and judges to come in and join since we have an increase in the number of female boxers registered with us.”
WBF president Mick Croucher said he is looking forward to the event along with their leading Australian official, Justin Kennedy.
“The World Boxing Foundation has gained much respect around the world for its integrity and only wishes to deal with promoters of the utmost respect and integrity. “I offer my personal commitment to advise and train officials as Fiji has some of the best potential boxers in the world.”
He added that local female officials would be taught by Lynette Kennedy. -
