2018 ELECTION Damodar: My focus on charity
Businessman Div Damodar says he is not aligned with any political party, rejecting speculation that he will contest the 2018 General Election under the FijiFirst banner.
When asked if he would join FijiFirst, Mr Damodar said: “No, no, no, I’m not involved in any political party.
“My primary focus right now is helping individuals and doing charitable work with Walk on Walk Strong Kids Fiji.” A commentator on national issues, Mr Damodar has previously praised Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama on Facebook and has called Fiji the “economic superpower of the Pacific.”
“Me, individually as Div Damodar, I have my views and most of them are shared on social media,” said the chief executive officer of the Damodar Group of Companies. Last month, Mr Damodar called a press conference to publicly dissociate himself from ex-wife Riddhi Bhavsar, who became a National Federation Party provisional candidate with the Damodar surname.
On his Facebook page, Mr Damodar has described Fiji in two stages, saying 1970 to 2006 was a period of coups, politics and economic growth.
In contrast, Mr Damodar said, the period between 2006 and 2018 saw the advent of a new Fiji “with economic growth.” Mr Damodar has praised the Government's free education policy and has, in the same breath, called for the end of th e "dirty racial politics of 1987 and 2000."
