Tea Party For Eileen In Labasa
Staff of the Ministry of Fisheries, on behalf of all Government departments in Labasa, hosted a tea party for Commonwealth Games gold medallist Eileen Cikamatana yesterday.
The 18-year-old weightlifting sensation came to Labasa with her mother Makitalena on Monday and will be leaving today after visiting her relatives.
Ministry of Fisheries northern divisional officer Joji Vakawaletabua on behalf of Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea thanked Eileen and congratulated her for the achievement. “When we heard you are in Labasa we thought of showing our appreciation to you and your family,” Vakawaletabua said. Competing in the 90kg category, Cikamatana lifted a total of 233kg to edge out her Australian rival Kaity Fassina in Gold Coast, Australia.
“This is such a huge achievement by a young female and we are proud of you,” Vakawaletabua said. Makitalena thanked the Ministry of Fisheries for hosting her daughter at Macuata House.
Eileen was also appreciative of the kind gesture.
“I am honoured and this will motivate me to work harder and achieve more for Fiji,” Eileen said.
“I came here to visit my mother’s relatives.
“I am really surprised to be recognised by people requesting for a selfie.
“Indeed Vanua Levu is a friendly place.”
