PM praises Fiji Pine Board

- CHARLES CHAMBERS Edited by Naisa Koroi

Aperson’s religion, ethnicity, or which province they come from does not matter when making crucial appointments but rather that they are the most qualified and they do the best for the beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama made this comment yesterday to pine landowners adding that they had right people leading Fiji Pine Group of Companies. He said the result was the huge payout of $7 million in bonuses to the landowners and at the same time the country and economy were also benefitting.

He paid special mention to FPGC Executive Chairman Faiz Khan and the board saying “thank you, as always, for what you’ve done for this industry and for what you’ve done for the Fijian people and for your nation.”

“These past seven years, the Fijian economy has soared and so has this Industry.” “We’ve brought in the right people with the right skills to put this Industry on the path of prosperity, and with that team in place, we’ve been putting marks on the board year in and year out.

He said to Mr Khan and his board: “You’ve played by the same rules that I’ve set out for the running of my Government, you’ve practised transparency, accountability and sound financial management, and you’ve put the well-being of our landowners at the very centre of this organisation, bringing them the prosperity, reliability and stability they deserve.

“This goes to show you need to have the right people in the right jobs.”
