The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team preparation for the final leg of the World Sevens Series in Paris -London started in the locker room in Singapore following their 28-22 victory over Australia last Sunday. Speaking to the players in the locker room, Coach Gareth Baber acknowledged the players for their sacrifice and dedication which have now put themselves on top of the series table with 145 points after securing tournament wins in Hamilton, Vancouver, Hong Kong and Singapore.

“When we started this journey in January, none of us knew what the guarantee was,”he said.

“We were going through tough times but we know what we going to put in to get the results we need. “And the trophy that we won is the symbol of that.

“That’s the sign of brotherhood, the responsibilities towards each other, responsibility to not just sit within the circle but get ready to perform.”

Baber applauded the faith the players had in Singapore. “The character and faith you have shown to each other is symbolized by the trophy we won.

“I see sacrifice going in there, I see dedication going in there, I see hurt, I see winds going in there, and I can see brotherhood going in there.

“I can see faith, I can see long, long hours we had at Uprising Beach Resort, training under the rain. I make you do your concept area work and you look at me as if I’ve gone mad.

“I put you into the gym and make you do sessions just after you do your concept work, it’s all in that trophy,” Baber said.

“When I walk out of that field after the final, people were asking me why do I leave it in the 14th minute. I told them it doesn’t matter because it’s the 14th minute game and we train for 14 minutes.

“I enjoyed it because it’s not a drama but the dedication you boys displayed,” Baber said.” “What we need to do now is to put these victories back on the floor because we know how hard it’s been but we know what other teams are doing now is to beat us the next time.”

Baber also acknowledges the Lord Almighty for giving him the strength.

“I want to thank God for giving me the strength, showing me the leadership to guide you through to what you do best.”
