The newly formed Pacific Corporate Governance Institute (PCGI) had its ongoing training workshop for directors and senior executives yesterday at Holiday Inn, Suva.

The one-day workshop helped companies develop a practical approach for implementing sound corporate governance practices, with a focus on setting up effective boards of directors and establishing effective management controls. International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, with the support of Australia, set up the institute last November, with the endorsement of the Reserve Bank of Fiji and working with the South Pacific Stock Exchange. Fijian Holdings Limited chief executive officer Nouzab Fareed said the aim of the training was to promote good governance practices in the business sector in the region.

“Good governance is something serious that needs to be discussed in any business sector,” he said.

“We are very much thankful to the Australian government of thinking of this concept and funding the initiative and also appreciate the IFC Resident Representative (Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Kiribati) Deva De Silva for the support and making it happen,” he said. Ending yesterday, the workshop attracted board directors and senior executives from medium- and largesized companies across different industries. PCGI workshops help companies develop a practical approach for implementing sound corporate governance practices, with a focus on setting up effective boards of directors and establishing effective management controls.
