Yasawa proved too good for Nanukuloa after securing their third win in the Vodafone Vanua Championship competition with a 34 – 14 thrashing at Churchill Park in Lautoka, yesterday.

What happened: Yasawa scored three tries in first half through first five –eighth Napolioni Ratu in the 3rd minute, flanker Seremaia Navia on the 14th min and tight-head prop Varasiko Peceli on the 39th min.

Yasawa dominated all facets of play with their aggressive forward pack complimented by some damaging runs by their backline, who were slicing through the Nanukuloa defence at will. Nanukuloa’s disorganized defence let them down.

Halftime: Yasawa 20 – 6 Nanukuloa It was all Yasawa in the second spell as they put pedal to the metal, taking a grip of the game depriving Nanukuloa of any opportunity of a comeback.

Final score: 34 -13

Big Play: Yasawa scoring two successive tries early in the second half through loose-head prop Netani Nakobakoba in the 42nd min and Josua Tuidriva in the 47th min that secured them a bonus point and dashing any hopes of a Nanukuloa comeback. Nanukuloa scored a consolation try through right winger Apimeleki Varakuka in the 53rd minute.

Star turn: Yasawa’s pivot Napolioni Ratu controlled play from No.10.

Comments:

Yasawa head coach Seru Rogo said their players failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities but will need to step up in their next game against Vatukoula.

“Maybe it is the lack of fitness with fatigue obvious in the second half.”

Nanukuloa Coach Moape Bolebole said;

“It was a good game despite some questionable calls made by the match officials.”

Results: U20 Nanukuloa 17 – 47 Yasawa.
