The Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) will continue to organise farmers’ field day in an effort to build more interaction and strengthen relationship as crushing season begins soon.

FSC chief operating officer Navin Chandra recently attended the farmers’ field day at Papalagi, a settlement outside Labasa Town.

He said this field day was also like an outreach to farmers.

“The field day at Papalagi was fruitful as farmers from nearby gathered to hear about the new techniques of farming and what other kind of variety of cane is available,” Mr Chandra said.

“It was also a time for the lead farmers to demonstrate to other farmers how they do farming so that they can try out in their farm and become equally successful.

“It was day where we all share information and see how best we can contribute to the success of sugar production this year.

“Such kind of field day is seen as an open forum platform where farmers raise issues and reveal their problems and we assist them by providing clarification.

“The Labasa mill will begin crushing on June 19 and harvesting will start a day before.

“We will continue to have field days in other areas in Fiji and work towards another year of success.”

The Labasa mill will begin crushing on June 19.
