Determination and Hard Work Boosts Nabobo’s Business

- SHEENAM CHANDRA Edited by Mohammed Zulfikar sheenam.chandra@fijisun.com.fj

Asenaca Nabobo’s determination and hard work enabled her to start her own tailoring business since she started her training at the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre.

The 53-year-old Tailevu native yesterday graduated with a Certificate in Sewing from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre in Nasinu

Ms Nabobo, who operates the business from her home, said: “I operate the business from my house, because there is no tailor in my area, so I have no expenses.”

She got emotional as she described her desire to support her family after her husband’s death in November last year.

“I had a sewing machine at home, but I did not have the experience to operate the machine. After attending this centre, I have learnt more and I can sew anything,” she said.

“After sewing my first article of clothing, I posted the picture on Facebook and after that I got requests and orders,” Ms Nabobo said.

Her age is not showing any signs of slowing down with her newly found tailoring skills.

She lives with her two sons in Tacirua East, Nasinu. “I supported my family using the money which my husband left behind.

Ms Nabobo spent most of her life as a housewife, but now she operates her tailoring business after receiving orders.

“I made a promise to my husband that I would never remarry. I will become a father and mother for both of my two sons,” she said.

“Where there is a will, there is always a way,” she said as a message of empowerment for the women who feel they are underprivileged.

“I feel so blessed that we have these types of students who are attending this centre. We are so fortunate that we can empower these underprivileged women,” said Mr Talei, one of Ms Nabobo’s tutors.
