Ref Della gets world invite
Della Shaw-Elder has been invited by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to officiate at the 2018 IWF Junior World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on July 7.
This is Della’s first invitation by IWF to referee at the world level. Previously, Della has been a referee at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games and other International and regional competitions.
In September 2017, Della served on the Jury at the Commonwealth & Oceania Championships in Gold Coast, Australia. Serving on the jury, is the highest honour for a referee in weightlifting.
Della has established her credibility, as a referee at these competitions and both Della and WF are excited that Della has been extended the invite.
This is one step closer to officiating at the senior IWF World Championships. Weightlifting Fiji (WF) is looking to submit her nomination to officiate at the 2020 Olympics.
Della said that “this is a great honour for me as well as for Fiji to be asked to officiate at the world stage.”
Della is the only female IWF Category One Referee from the Pacific. She achieved this status in 2014.-Weightlifting Fiji.
New Weightlifting Equipment
International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has given Weightlifting Fiji (WF) new weightlifting equipment as their development grant.
Weightlifting Fiji applied for this grant as part of its preparation for the 2019 IWF Junior World Championships that Fiji will be hosting.
WF in its application identified a need for equipment towards the set-up of new clubs, schools-programme, rural outreach programs, talent identification and enhanced preparation for the Junior World Championships and other future International events.
Fiji is poised to build on its successes locally and internationally, with the recent being a gold and a bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games followed by the hiring of an international coach to help take the sport forward.
