Couple of Rape: Opinion of Assessors
Sixty-six-year-old man and his 60-yearold wife were found guilty by all three assessors for raping a 14-year-old after the summing up was delivered in the High Court yesterday.
Justice Salesi Temo on Monday, May 21, 2018 will deliver his judgement.
The man, accused one, is charged with two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of indecently annoying a person.
The woman, accused two, is charged with aiding and abetting rape.
The incident took place on August 1, 2016, at Nasinu in the Central Division.
The couple is represented by Legal Aid’s Lisiate Qetaki and Simione Valenitabua.
Mr Qetaki, is his closing submissions, said the court should take into consideration that the complainant had admitted lying in 2016

that she was forcefully raped and in 2018 she changed the story to it being a consensual act.
He added that the evidence given by the doctor and the history given by the complainant were totally different.
Mr Valenitabua, while delivering his closing submission, said he agreed with Mr Qetaki that the court consider the doctor’s evidence and that the history given by the complainant were different. Accused one is remanded in Police custody and accused two was granted bail.
