Vocea launches 3-year project to improve capacity in communities
Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea, while launching the Adventist Development and Relief Agency project, Accountability and Monitoring (Yadrayadravi), has called on participants to be agents of change in the Cakaudrove province.
As chief guest, during the European Union (EU) funded event at Foreshore Park in Savusavu yesterday, Mr Vocea said ‘Yadrayadravi’ would be implemented for a period of three years in Cakaudrove.
“The overall objective of this project is to improve capacities of civil society organisations, to foster good governance and accountability,” Mr Vocea said.
“The project in collaboration with the Ministry of iTaukei will help 134 communities and settlements to develop their community development plan using the participatory and bottom up approach planning process. “In addition communities will be trained on basic financial literacy and budgeting. “A main focus of the Government is to improve the livelihood of people in the rural sector with our mandate to ensure that communities in the Northern Division share equal opportunities, resources are utilised wisely and people participate equally in development within the division. “Economic development is progressing well and investments are picking up, especially in Savusavu and that indicates the demand gap will create employment opportunities. “The North is blessed with resources and people should utilise their skills to better their livelihoods.
“This Yadrayadravi project comes at the right time and it has my full support.
“I would like to urge all communities and village heads involved to make use of this opportunity.”
