Organisers of the Hasmat Investment Lautoka Farmers Carnival aim to raise $150,000 from the event for their projects in 2018.

The carnival is scheduled from June 8 to 17 at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Umit Narayan, who has succeeded his late father Udit Narayan as secretary of the committee, confirmed this at the carnival launch yesterday.

“We want to create awareness because it is around the corner. There are plans for a bigger and better carnival this year.

“The carnival has been held since 2002,” he said.

“There is minimum support from the business houses, but there are some new business houses coming on board.

“This includes Hasmat Investment as the major sponsor. We are in the final negotiating stages of sponsorship and it is a huge sum.” The carnival theme for this year is “Educating Underprivileged Children”.

Mr Narayan said this year’s event would be focused on the theme.

“We will be going big on the subject,” he said.

“We will keep to a similar programme we had last year, but just the different theme for this year. “We are anticipating big and preparing towards this annual event.” Mr Narayan said for the first time organisers would introduce an additional sector to boost the competition because there are seven contestants taking part.
