Singh scores, Nadi Sikh win IDC

Nadi won the Vodafone Sikh Inter-district competitio­n after 24 years.

The Gurdeep Singh –captained side edged Tavua 1-0 in final at the Korovuto College ground last Saturday.

Midfielder Neville Singh was the toast of the side scoring in the first half.

Nadi had the services of former Ba district rep Paula Buke, former Rewa striker Kevin Singh and veteran Rajvinder Singh.

Team captain Singh said; “It is a great feeling. Nadi last won the tournament in 1994 at Prince Charles Park. After 24 years Nadi has managed to grab hold of the prestigiou­s trophy in front of home crowd.

“The bad weather during the Easter weekend did affect our campaign but we have more time to prepare. Interestin­gly we had lost first game 1-0 to Nasinu and had thumped Tavua 3-0 in pool play.” On the other hand Tavua had Ravinesh Karan Singh, skipper Sanjeet Singh, Shavneel Singh, Avneet Singh, and Shivneel Kumar.

In the first semifinal, Parvit Singh scored a brace of goal as 9-man Nadi edged 10man Tailevu 2-1.

Later in the second spell a total of three red cards were flashed. Two to Nadi Shanal Singh and Parvit Singh and one to a Tailevu player for initiating a brawl. “In the other semifinal Tavua proved too strong as it trounced the Shakir Ali led Nakasi 3-1.

Awards: Best player - Ashneel Singh (Nadi), best goalkeeper - Manjit singh (Tavua), best dressed - (Tavua).
