Kamoe Back For Fiji Open
Former national rep Kulam Kamoe is making a comeback in the 2018 Tattslotto Fiji Open Tennis Championship which starts at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club tomorrow. The Natabua High School Year 13 student had taken time off from competing in local and regional competitions. Kamoe, who hails from Malahaha, Rotuma will be competing with the top players from the region but she is confident of a good outing.
“This will be my sixth year competing in the event and I’m ready. Maybe this is my last year as I am going to attend college education in the United States,” she said.
Kamoe started playing at seven years old while attending Nadi Muslim Primary before she moved to Lautoka Central College.
She reached the women singles final on two occasions in 2015 and 2017.
“I have not been playing lately but i expect the competition to be tougher than last year. The team from New Caledonia and other local reps will be tough.”
US-based 2015 winner William O’Connell is back to face 2017 Open singles champions Gilles de Gouy (France) and runner up Junior Benjamin. Former French national junior team player Thomas Perrin is one of the favourites. Tennis Fiji’s sports development and engagement adviser Paul Owen said the event is set to host the top eight men’s seeds from last year.
