MAN SEEKS BAIL, SAYING HE IS A TELS STUDENT
A 30-year-old man charged with assault pleaded with Nasinu Magistrate Sufia Hamza yesterday to release him on bail because he was a Tertiary Education Loans Scheme student.
The accused, Siake Naicobocobo, is alleged to have assaulted Amit Prasad on May 14, 2018, thereby causing him actual bodily harm.
On the day of the alleged incident at about 8:30pm, Mr Prasad was walking along Tuirara Road near the old Hansons Supermarket when he was allegedly approached by a group of boys. Naicobocobo allegedly told the complainant to buy GP Glue, but he refused.
The accused is then alleged to have punched and kicked the complainant on the thigh resulting in the complainant falling to the ground and his head hit a container. Furthermore, the accused allegedly held the complainant’s head and hit it on the container before taking $10 cash from him. Magistrate Hamza remanded Naicobocobo in custody after it was confirmed that he was given a suspended sentence in July 2016.
Accordingly, Police prosecutor Sergeant Apenisa Keresoni was advised to amend the charge against Naicobocobo.
The accused has been further remanded and his case has been adjourned to May 31, 2018.
He was also advised to file a proper bail application.
