New Bati Coach Outlines Plans
Vodafone Fijian Bati interim coach Matt Adamson has started scouting for players for the June Test clash against Papua New Guinea.
In a press conference in Suva yesterday, Adamson said he would be out scouting potential local players during the first round of the Vodafone Cup national elimination matches on Saturday.
He said they have already started putting together a list of players but the team would be finalised on June 18.
“I’ve been looking at local kids through some rugby league contests and we will put together a short list moving forward and the board has to make the final decision,” Adamson said.
“We will be having the fitness elimination test on June 18. Going into that camp we will be looking at selecting the best team possible in representing the country. It will be a stepping stone towards the 2021 campaign and also a progressive development for our young future talents.”
Adamson added that there would not be a lot of changes made on the team and his main focus would be on the defensive structure.
“I will be guided by the playing group on how they want to play and what things they think they can do better. Defence is a big component and I haven’t known any club in any country having a strong defensive structure and mentality. That is how we build our success and I want to continue do that with the Fiji Bati team.” Feedback: karalaini.tavi@fijisun.com.fj
