Fasting and seeking spiritual guidance were the key factors in Rewa winning the Skipper Cup Premiership round five clash yesterday.
This was after they edged Jack’s Nadi 24-23 at Burebasaga.
Rewa team manager Petero Kaveni said the loss to Naitasiri last week was a wake-up call for them.
“You can pray without fasting, and fast without praying. It is when these two activities are combined and dedicated to God’s glory that they reach their full effectiveness, ”Kaveni said.
We had to fast every Wednesday and for me I was fasting four days this week seeking God’s guidance to help the team.
What happened: Both teams failed to score tries in the first half with points coming from three penalties for Nadi and one to Rewa.
Halftime: Nadi 9- 3 Nadi
It was all Rewa in the second half as they dominated play and never allowed the jetsetters to settle down.
Pailato Tidaku scored the first try in the 51st minute with Ratu Aca Silatolu adding the extras for a 10-9 lead. In the 53rd minute Glen Cakautini scored another try for Rewa running the ball from the Nadi to their territory, pilling the Nadi defense, 17-9.
Silatolu extended the lead when he scored another try, 24-0.
Nadi loose-head prop Navitalai Visawaqa and hooker Viliame Tui scored two tries for Nadi which was both converted by Sela Toga, 24-23.
Comments: Rewa manager Petero Kaveni said: “We started well but lost concentration towards the end. We can’t allow that since we’ve got tougher matches coming up. We need to be focused for the whole 80 minutes.”
Nadi team manager said: “We lost to a better side. We thought we had Rewa contained in the first half but their experience got the better of us.”
