In a bid to further complement awareness and information sharing, the Ministry of Energy has developed the online Renewable Energy Central Information Forum.

The Ministry is working with the support from the United Nations Development Programme and the Global Environment Facility.

This was revealed by Minister for Local Government, Housing, Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala, who officiated at the Energy Forum Website launch in Nadi yesterday. He said, “Through this Forum, we will be able to reach out to the public and provide specific information relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency in Fiji. “Our intention is to encourage further action which will support the Government’s strategy to increase the use of renewable energy and expand energy efficiency in Fiji. The website can be accessed through www.REINFOFIJI.com.fj . The minister launched the 2018 edition of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Conservation and Efficiency Programme. Mr Bala said there has been an increase in the number of schools that participated in the Schools Energy Saver Competition since 2010. He said, “Competitions are usually in the form of Poster, Energy Audit and Renewable Energy Model aiming to broaden students’ knowledge on energy issues particularly those we face locally.”

It is a good learning platform to showcase your artistic skills, innovative ideas, concepts and knowledge on the different technologies and methods that can be explored to transform the energy sector. The competition theme is Energy Efficiency Smarter Way to Reduce Carbon Emission.

Police are hunting for two suspects in an alleged gang rape case. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the investigations were still underway as they searched for the two involved in the alleged gang rape of a 11-year-old girl in Namosi in February this year.

It is alleged that the men were part of the church youth group who were in Namosi at the time of the incident.

Four accused persons were charged with rape and produced in the High Court in Suva.

Ms Naisoro said Police had identified the two suspects on the run.
