‘RESIGNS’ AS CEO
Lolesh Sharma the chief executive officer of Sun Insurance, one of Fiji’s leading property and casualty insurers, is understood to have resigned. The company board has accepted his resignation which cited personal reasons. Inia Naiyaga, the former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, has been appointed principal for SUN Insurance. Mr Sharma was appointed chief executive officer in 2011 after being General Manager Operations for six years.
With his qualification as a Civil Engineer and Insurance qualifications from London, he was able to mix theory and practicalities well.
Mr Sharma has used his engineering background in increasing SUN’s ability to underwrite engineering risks. He was also attributed for bringing in innovation to SUN Insurance via the web and new products.
SUN is proudly a 100 per cent Fijian owned entity with all of its profits retained within the Fiji economy. Since its inception SUN Insurance has invested around $40 million in the Fijian economy.
Further, SUN is the only such company in Fiji with 100 per cent local staff content.

SUN was borne out of NMBF Insurance (Fiji) Ltd when three local businessmen took over the ownership of the fledging company and renamed it as SUN Insurance in 1999. The company’s current client base is in excess of 80,000 policyholders.
