The Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs opened their Australia tour in style when they walloped a star studded Brumbies Women side 33-7 at the ANU North Oval, Canberra in yesterday. Speaking to SUNsports, Fijiana XVs coach Ro Alifereti Doviverata said the team performed remarkably well.

“They did what was expected of them,” he said.

“I’m pleased with how they responded at training in such a short preparation time.

“We will take on the learnings from this match onto the second match on Saturday. I was particularly impressed with their transition since most were playing tens rugby in the local Skipper Cup competition.

“I take my hats off to our management staff for a job well done and most of all to the girls for their resilience and for working together as a team.”

Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor congratulated the Fijiana XVs for the win on their first tour to Australia. “We’re grateful to Government for the investment made in the development of women’s rugby in the country,” O’Connor said.

He also indicated that this is the evidence on the progress of women rugby now played in the Skipper Cup Premiership .

“The win will boost the preparation of our women’s fifteens team for the upcoming Oceania competition.”

Five members of the Brumbies line-up are in the Australian Wallaroos extended squad.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana XVs will take on NSW Women in Newcastle on Saturday.
