Year Eight student wins Ladies Open, set new course record of 64

Nadi Airport School Year Eight student Ga In Ju took out the 35th BTS Fiji Ladies Open 2018 at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club yesterday.

Ju, who won the tournament in 2016, also set the course record for women carding eight under par 64.

She shot (70, 70, and 64) for a total 204 after 54 holes. “I am very happy to win, but I was not thinking on setting the course record for women,” she said.

“I did not score well in round one, same story in round two, but hoping to do better in the final round. The competitio­n in the leaders was awesome.”

Suah Jung, a student of Ratu Navula College finished second spot (68, 72, 80) after she took the lead on Monday.

The tournament started in 1984 with former national rep Gye Oh winning the event record five times (2005, 2008, 2010 -11, 2014). Slyvia Joe won four times (1997, 2002, 2012 – 2013) to level the record held by Adi Sai Tuivanuavo­u (1987, 88, 93, 95). Selai Pridgeon won in 2001, 2007 and 2009.

DGRC club captain and BTS rep Trevor Fox thanked the players that took part in three-day event. “BTS will sponsor the event once again,” he said.

He thanked the sponsors BTS, DGRC, Golf Fiji, Blueridge Holdings Limited, The Westin, Nadina Restaurant, FIJI WATER, Tappoo and Tourism Fiji.

Results: Overall Nett winner Rosa Yoon (202), division 2 –Rae Rigger (261), Division 3 – Laura Cunning (301), best nett division 1 – Sylvia Joe (210 c/b), division 2 – Linda Callaghan (218 c/b), division 3 – Seni Lewai (216).”
