Daunivavana wants to fight ‘The Sniper’
Welterweight boxer Rakuro Daunivavana has issued a challenge to fight Inkk Mobile sponsored- Sebastian ‘The Sniper’ Singh in the main bout of the July 13 charity programme at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Daunivavana said, he’s willing to step in replace Fred Nasep of Vanuatu who suffered a first round knockout loss to Franco Fraser last Saturday.
“I’ve watched Sebastian fight and he’s a southpaw,” he said.
“I can make the weight and this is an opportunity for me. I’m confident of fighting Singh and also doing well.”
Daunivavana has moved his camp to Labasa where he is now being trained by his brother Dr Manoa Raika.
“I’ve been training for six weeks now. I was hoping to get a fight in the last programme but did not so I’ve continued on with my training.” Daunivavana is the nephew of former Fiji and South Seas welterweight champion Tevita Vakalalabure.
When contacted Seaside Boxing Club promoter Freddy Chand said Daunivavana is a young and talented boxer who has shown a lot of guts in his willingness to take on Singh.
“Rakuro has proven himself when he took on a champion boxer like Ronald Naidu to the wire,” he said.
“I’m ready to put him on and hope Sebastian Singh does not take him lightly.”
Chand said they are first boxing club to hold a charity programme where 25 percent of the takings go to the Bula Charity Trust.
“There will be 22 fights in the night and it will be great to watch some of our former champions like Sakaraia Ve take to the ring along with women and children boxers as well,” he added.
