Navosa need to start afresh in 2019 and target to rejoin the Skipper Cup Premiership competition in 2020, says Peniasi Damu. The former national prop and Navosa coach barked instructions from the sideline but to no avail as his young band of men were outmuscled 42-13 by Namosi at Thomson Park, Navua yesterday.

Navosa and Malolo have been relegated to the Vodafone Vanua Championship in 2019 after finishing in the bottom two in the eight-team competition. “We encountered problems along the way and we should have dealt with it better,” Damu said.

“But that’s water under the bridge now and we need to move on.

“We need to start afresh in 2019 and work our way back to the top in 2020.” Namosi scored eight tries and kicked one conversion while Navosa kicked a penalty and scored two tries.

Namosi led 20-3 at halftime with tries to Cyril Reece, Isoa Gavidi and Aporosa Dawai scoring a double.

Namosi were unstoppable in the second half with two quick tries to Kameli Ratu and elusive Atunaiasa Ratumaisala to lead 30-3.

But prop Atu Maiono scored the try of the day when he made a welltimed intercept from halfway and ran away to score in the corner.

The eighth try came from a good forward shove scored by replacement number eight Aca Simolo. Namosi coach Akuila Nasi is happy that they managed to be among the top four playing districts in the country.

“I don’t know who will we meet but we need to be ready by Saturday,”he said. Namosi is the HFC Farebrother Challenge Series champion and winning the Skipper Cup Premiership and $30,000 is just two games away for Asaeli Boko and his men.

In the U20 Namosi won 37-7 and the women also thrashed Navosa 44-0.
