SODELPA Vijay Singh case still under review
Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) vice-president Vijay Singh’s case is still under review by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
In a statement FICAC confirmed the case was under review and would release further comments after a decision was made on the matter.
Mr Singh originally had to step down after the Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem ruled that he had breached the Political Parties Act and referred the matter to FICAC for further investigation.
It was alleged that Mr Singh, who had not officially resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was elected SODELPA vicepresident on December 9 last year.
During the SODELPA annual general meeting last Saturday in Lautoka, Mr Singh was re-elected vice president, defeating Kelemedi Naidiri who was nominated by Naitasiri.
Mr Singh polled more than 300 votes while Mr Naidiri scored a little more than 100 votes. One of the motions at the AGM was for general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi to step aside over the December special general meeting debacle when Mr Singh was elected vice president. This was when he was still a member of the PDP. The motion was defeated.
