NORTH CANE FARMERS LABEL BUDGET AS PROMISING
Mohammed Habib
Cane Farmers of Fiji have no more reasons to complain about cane prices, after the new budget announced a fixed price of $85/tonne. Along with continuing subsidies, the estimated gross price per tc will exceed $100 per tonne. Considering the current low EU as well as world market price trends, this is an unprecedented measure of assurance of support to Fijian sugar stakeholders. If the sugar industry does not show a striking turnaround in outputs and performances within a year…nothing else will. So the ball, as they say, is squarely in the hands of farmers and miller.
