COMPLAINANT RECALLS HORRIFIC NIGHT
A 20-year-old complainant recalled during a trial at the High Court in Suva, the horrific night she was allegedly raped in Tailevu.
While giving evidence on Thursday she told the court of the pain she felt after she was forced to have sex with the accused men.
Napolioni Leiloma, Wame Baleimakogai, Luke Sorovakatini and Sanjay Lal are charged with four counts of rape and one of assault with intent to commit rape.
The alleged incident happened on October 9, 2016 in Waimaro, Tailevu, where two young women aged 19 and 20 years old were allegedly raped by four men. The four accused appeared before Judge Justice Salesi Temo.
Three of the four men are on bail while Sorovakatini is a serving inmate.
On the first count of rape, Baleimakogai, Leiloma and Sorovakatini are alleged to have had carnal knowledge of the complainant without her consent on October 9, 2016 in Waimaro, Tailevu.
On the second count, Leiloma allegedly performed a sexual act on her without her consent.
For the third count, Baleimakogai allegedly performed a sexual act on her without her consent. On the fourth count, Baleimakogai, Leiloma and Lal allegedly had carnal knowledge of the complainant without her consent.
On the fifth count, Lal allegedly punched the complainant’s mouth with the intention to commit rape.
Baleimakogai is represented by Legal Aid Commission lawyer Lice Manulevu, Leiloma by Lavinia David, Sorovakatini by Litiana Ratidara and Lal by private lawyer Jitendra Reddy.
The State was represented by Taitusi Tuenuku.
