Rosie Holidays managing director Tony Whitton says the company’s favourite number is 11.

This is because every 11th visitor who comes to Fiji produces one full time job directly and another two full time jobs indirectly.

During the opening of the $5 million Rosie Holidays Events Warehouse in Namaka, Nadi yesterday, Mr Whitton referred to a 300-strong conference scheduled for next year.

He said the visitors arrival from New Zealand would mean employment for Fijians. “The very day they arrive at Nadi Airport, 27 people will have direct employment and another 54 people will derive income indirectly,” Mr Whitton said.

“This will also see 81 Fijian families have food on the table because those attending the conference chose Fiji as their destination.” Mr Whitton also revealed a refreshed Rosie Holidays logo as part of its branding refresh programme.

The warehouse is Fiji’s largest and only purpose-built structure: and solely used for international and local meetings, incentives, conferences and events (M.I.C.E.) market. “This is good for Fiji Tourism.”

He said that was why tourism dollars were used to pay for our petroleum, imports, medicines, cheese and flour

At the same time lifting the Fijian people out of poverty and improving the social and economic wellbeing of every Fijian as tourism dollars circulate through the economy. Mr Whitton reminisced the discipline his father, the late Roy Whitton, instilled in him.

“The lack of discipline in the tiny things will magnify in the big things,” he said.

“Dad said if you can’t be disciplined enough to make your bed when you wake up, you will be undisciplined in the bigger things throughout the day,” Mr Whitton said.

He told his staff, who will man the warehouse, that everything that left the building had to be checked.

“If you don’t check your equipment before it leaves, remember that simple lack of discipline will expose your entire crew to danger.”
