We hope that we are able to extend the same benefits across all townships. Sigatoka town caters for the province of Nadroga/ Navosa and we are confident that a week’s carnival will generate much needed funds for the town’s development and beautification projects Vishala Raman Vodafone Fiji Head of Customer Care

The construction of a new 1500 seats pavilion is expected to begin soon at the Fiji Sugar Corporation ground in Rakiraki.

The plan is for the pavilion to be completed in time for Rakiraki to host the 2018 TFL Miss Fiji Pageant event at the end of the year.

Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Bala revealed the plan during the closing of the Vodafone Coral Coast Carnival in Sigatoka last Saturday night.

Mr Bala did not disclose the dollar value of the project, but said it was mandatory that the week-long pageant was hosted in various towns in the country.

“My ministry has always supported such carnivals. It is a time to bring all Fijians together. And we will continue to support all towns and cities in future and their carnivals,” he said.

“We should not forget our tradition and our obligation to the elders and the vanua.”

ADVOCATE

He added, “The challenge is to advocate issues of importance to this wonderful coral coast town of Sigatoka and its people.

“I will like to see the town and cities get together and celebrate all religious festivals with all the people of their community. This is what makes Fiji unique and strong.”

CHARITY FUNDS FOR PROJECT

More than $12,000 was raised at the Coral Coast carnival.

The charity funds will be used for the construction of the two rest rooms, one at the Kedrakulu Children’s Park and the other at the Mission Road Children’s Park. Vodafone Fiji Head of Customer Care Vishala Raman said, “Vodafone has been supporting community-oriented events across the country for the past 24 years. With our sponsorships of the events, we ensure our support for the vanua.”

Vodafone revived the carnival after six years in 2015.

“We hope that we are able to extend the same benefits across all townships. Sigatoka town caters for the province of Nadroga/Navosa and we are confident that a week’s carnival will generate much needed funds for the town’s development and beautification projects,” Ms Raman said. With that in mind, Ms Raman applauded the efforts of the councils, government ministries, schools, and corporate organisations that have taken steps, be it small efforts such as going paperless and thinking green or large scale initiatives such as that of the government and business operators of banning the use of plastic bags.
