ACCIDENT Girl, 10, Hit By Car, In Hospital
A10-year-old girl is admitted at the CWM Hospital after she was hit by a car yesterday morning. Mereoni Liku of Sawani Primary School was walking to school with two other students, who are her uncles, when the accident happened.
The incident occurred at Naitaqiri bend along Princes Road near Colo-i-Suva at about 7am.
Her grandfather, Taito Rinawai, said they were hoping for a quick recovery. Speaking to the Fiji Sun at 7.30pm last night, Mr Rinawai said his granddaughter was still on Nil By Mouth (NBM) from the morning. “I was really shocked when I heard the news this morning,” he said.
“One of our neighbours called me to inform me about what happened, so I left everything and rushed to the scene which was just few metres from home.
“We are praying for her recovery.” Mr Rinawai said that Mereoni was his daughter’s only child.
He added that his granddaughter was complaining of chest pain, back pain and couldn’t move her body. Meanwhile, a witness who was travelling from Nausori to Suva, said when they got to the scene, there were few cars parked.
“The red car, which was driven by a woman, is believed to have lost control, veered off the road and hit the girl,” she said.
“There were others who stopped at the scene to offer help, so they lifted the car and pulled the little girl out.” The witness said she could see blood on Mereoni’s head and ears, but was not too sure of the seriousness of the injuries.
“She was all muddy.”
She added that they had to rush Mereoni to the Nausori Hospital. Police spokesperson Jokatama Qio confirmed the incident and said the girl was transferred to the CWM Hospital from Nausori.
